How to Keep Your Pores Clean?

So here’s the thing: your pores aren’t actually “bulky” – they’re just clogged with junk and need to be unclogged. You basically need a giant plunger for your face. But since things like pore vacuums don’t really work (trust me, I’ve tried them and they’re nonsense; don’t waste your money), and performing home “pull outs” on each pore is too time consuming and painful, we asked Dr. Loretta Sirado, MD FAAD – a board-certified dermatologist in Miami with over 40 years of experience, and founder of Dr. Loretta Skin Care – about what we should use for our pores.

Origins Original Rose Clay Repair Mask, $26.
Ciraldo recommends a clay mask for anyone who wants to unclog their pores. And this mask is highly rated and can be used for all skin types.

Urban Skin Rx Purifying 2-in-1 Pumpkin Pore Detoxifying Mask and Scrub, $17.99
According to Ciraldo, the pumpkin mask is also very effective.” These masks are great at pulling out skin impurities and unclogging pores,” she says.

New York Bio Dead Sea Mud Mask, $14.95.
“If you have dry skin and are prone to acne, use a mud mask.” Ciraldo said. This one is great at pulling out impurities and is suitable for people of all skin types.

Dr. Loretta Micro Exfoliating Cleanser, $35
According to Dr. Loretta herself, this product is “sulfate- and fragrance-free and combines salicylic acid with organic coconut oil to act as a hydrating agent when clearing clogged pores, so it’s super safe and effective when used twice a day.”

Dr. Loretta Microdermabrasion Pad, $60.
This pad combines 10% glycolic acid with moisturizing peptides and botanicals for use 3-7 nights a week before bed.

Aveeno Clear Complexion Cream Cleansing Face Cleansing Cream with Salicylic Acid, $6.39.
“Salicylic acid gets into the pores, where it clears them by sticking dead cells to each other.” Ciraldo said.

Derma E Vitamin C Citrus Glowing Glowing Mask, $23.99.
Glycolic acid can help with clogged pores, prevent future breakouts and keep your skin looking fresh.

L & I Apothecary Arista Pumpkin Gentle Exfoliating Mask, $18.97.
Here is another great option for a pumpkin mask that can help keep those pores at bay.

Caudalie Vinopure Pore Cleansing Gel Cleanser, $28.
This cleanser works to reduce pores while also helping to control oil and get rid of spots.

Last but not least, avoid.
“Products containing alcohol, artificial flavors and sulfate-based products (listed as sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate),” says Ciraldo. They will dry out your skin and will definitely not help to extract the sebum that is stuck in your pores. Hydration is key, yaar!
