Don’t Want To Go Home On Thanksgiving? So Take A Trip That Just Goes Away

We get it. It’s not always good for our emotional health to spend time with certain toxic family members on Thanksgiving… But it’s not like you want to sit at home with all those (paid) days off. That’s why it’s the perfect time to travel to one of these amazing locations. Pack your bags, baby. Last minute hotel deals are calling our name… …

Yeah, turkeys are cool for everything, but have you ever heard of a little thing called Northern Lights, and November is your best chance to see them. So pack your coats and eyes for the sky. It’s best to stay away from the lights of Reykjav√≠k, so head out of town to H?fn or Hera. During the day, make sure to make time for a hot spring.

New York City
Make this the year you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade instead of sitting on the couch trying to dodge the question of when you’re getting married. There’s also ice skating in the Big Apple and on the Great White Way and in Central Park…. This time of year, the store windows alone are veritable works of art.

St. Barth’s Island
November is the best time to visit the Caribbean before the tourists descend next month. Now you can sunbathe on 17 white sandy beaches, rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous alike …….. And you don’t have to share it with anyone (too much, anyway).

Las Vegas, Nevada
Nothing will make you forget it’s Thanksgiving like 24/7 shows, gambling and general debauchery. If you hate the holidays, this is the place to be – hang out by the pool, shop, and make new friends at the blackjack table.

Charleston feels like it – historic, cool, and most importantly, friendly. The weather at this time of year tends to be in the 60s – i.e., perfect for sweaters and hot cocoa – while you stroll along the Battery and Mansions, uh, we mean taking in the architecture, visiting Magnolia Plantation, and people watching at City Market.

If you like your beaches under the sun with an adventurous side, head down to the jungles and beaches of Belize. Hit Ambergris Caye and snorkel the coral reefs for some amazing underwater viewing, then head inland to Actun! Tunichil Muknal (ATM), a series of underground caves filled with ancient Mayan ruins. Added bonus: English is the official language, so there is no language barrier.

Houston, Texas
A gorgeous 70-degree day and the NASA Space Center’s list of reasons to celebrate our 50th anniversary of walking on the moon. Head down to the Lone Star State. Lots of other museums, parks and theaters will give you a perfect, cultural long weekend.

Florence, Italy
Honestly, it’s never a bad time to go to Florence. Art! Architecture! When you’re tired of the historical significance of the Renaissance city, check out the Boboli Gardens. We’re going to be honest here, the real Italian food’s have mashed potatoes to beat, hands down.
